Course Detail: ROMEVSCLUSIUM - 472 Rome vs. Clusium through the Eyes of Macaulay
Step into the world of ancient Rome with a deep dive into Thomas Babington Macaulay's poem Horatius at the Bridge. This work recounts the quasi-mythical story of the heroic attempt of three Roman soldiers to defend the city five hundred years before the Christian era. In this session, we will explore some of the geographic and cultural references embedded in the poem, unravel the etymology of key words and explore the rhythm and rhyme structure that gives the work its memorable cadence. Suited for participants who have complementary interests in storytelling, Etruscan and Roman history, the geography of central Italy, etymology and poetry. The presenter's goal is for you to end the session with more questions than you came with.
