Course Detail: OCTOBER2023MONTHLY - October 11, 2023 Monthly Meeting - Saginaw River: The Docks, Cargoes and Vessels
Commercial shipping vessels travel into the Saginaw River each year carrying many different items, aggregate and rocks, cement and wind turbine components that are used across the mid-Michigan area. Todd Shorkey will share with OLLI his experience working on the Saginaw River. Todd started working as a deckhand for the Bay City Boat Lines in June 2010. He received his Merchant Mariner Credential/100-ton Captain's License in April 2018 and still works as a captain and deckhand for Bay City Boat Lines on the Princess Wenonah and Islander vessels. Todd started logging every vessel passage on the Saginaw River in 2005 and has continued every season compiling records of the vessels and the docks they visited. Join OLLI as Todd shares his research and pictures of shipping on the Saginaw River.
