Course Detail: 342SAGINAW - 342 Saginaw Black History in Mostly the 1800s

Saginaw has a rich history of the "firsts" by African Americans, including outstanding contributions to the development of the Saginaw Valley in the later 1800s. Learn about the first African American residents in Saginaw and Bay City, professional photographers, a wealthy lumber mill owner and politician, physician, lawyer and graduate of Howard University, local Civil War soldiers, visits by Frederick Douglass and Sojourner Truth, and more. Instructor Leo Romo, retired schoolteacher and history enthusiast, will lead the discussions on these local important figures.
