Course Detail: 169WETLANDS - 169 Invasive Wetlands: Battling Phragmites with Technology and Fieldwork

Phragmites australis is an invasive wetland plant that can create dense monocultures in formerly healthy wetlands. This course will cover identification of this plant, including telling native Phragmites from the invasive version, discuss the current extent of the problem in the Saginaw River watershed including control efforts, outline current methods to map this plant from the air using Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery, and, weather permitting, will include a field trip to the Crow Island State Game Area to program and fly a UAV mission.
