Course Detail: 149GUITAR - 149 Learn How to Play a Guitar
Have you always wanted to play the guitar? This four-week course will provide you with all the fundamentals you need to start playing! It is not necessary to have any previous music experience. Students will learn the parts of the guitar, the names of the strings, tuning, plectrum (guitar pick) technique and strumming. The course also covers the basics of music theory through topics such as reading music notation (as it applies to the guitar), notes in first position, chords, simple rhythms, scales and songs. This course will prepare students for a lifetime of making music for their own enjoyment and the enjoyment of others. Bring your own (or we will have one for you to borrow) six-string, acoustic (can be nylon or steel string) guitar and music stand. The class book (Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method Grade 1) can be purchased from the instructor at the first class, or you can purchase the book independently. Plectrums will be provided by the instructor.
