Course Detail: 41FRANKFORT - 41 Discover Frankfort and Iron Fish Distillery Tour & Tasting

"OLLI Adventurers" will travel to Frankfort, Michigan, to learn about the history and natural resources of this region. At just 345 square miles, Benzie County is the smallest county in the state of Michigan. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in natural resources with 30 hiking trails and 25 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Our first stop will be the Benzie Area Historical Society, where we'll tour the museum and pick up our guide for our motorcoach tour. Our guide will share the rich history and sights of the Benzie County region with us, including Frankfort, Alberta, and Beulah communities. We will have lunch at Crystal Mountain, and learn about the history of the Buck Hills Range and how it evolved into the premiere Crystal Mountain Resort. Following lunch, we'll head to the Iron Fish Distillery in Thompsonville for a tour of the distillery and 120-acre farm. You'll learn about the soil-to-spirit process and explore the art and science of barrel aging in the rickhouses, where thousands of barrels of whiskey will rest for years to come. The tour will conclude with a tasting flight of four spirits. Each guest will also take home an Iron Fish dram as a souvenir. This trip package includes motorcoach of Frankfort, admission to Benzie Area Historical Museum, lunch at Crystal Mountain, and tour and tasting at Iron Fish Distillery.
