Offshore Wind Training Center

Massachusetts Maritime Academy, in cooperation with Relyon Nutec, is pleased to offer the globally recognized GWO Basic Safety Training at its Buzzards Bay campus.  This is the first facility in the nation to offer all five modules of GWO Basic Safety Training for Offshore Wind.

Upon completion of the GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) delegates will possess an awareness of the hazards encountered when working within the wind industry and how to control and mitigate against these hazards. 

The BST will also equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to appropriately respond in the event of an emergency. They will also be able to increase their safety through proper use of personal protective equipment, emergency equipment, and procedures.

Courses

This course is taught in cooperation with Relyon Nutec under their GWO approval and is delivered in Blended Learning Format. This course consists of five modules: Working at Heights, First Aid, Sea Survival, Manual Handling, and Fire Awareness. PARTICIPANTS MUST COMPLETE BLENDED LEARNING PRIOR TO ARRIVAL ON CAMPUS. Students will be weighed and must be 275lbs or less in order to not exceed the rating of fall protection equipment.PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR LONG PANTS, STURDY SHOES, AND BRING WORK GLOVES AND SAFETY GLASSES. PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BERING A TOWEL AND A CHANGE OF CLOTHES FOR THE SEA SURVIVAL MODULE AS THEY WILL GET WET.

Certificate Programs

BST Consists of five Modules, First Aid, Working at Heights, Sea Survival, Fire Awareness, and Manual Handling (soon to be incorporated into Working at Heights). The total course length is approximately 44 hours (5.5 days).

Although students will receive a certificate of completion from Relyon Nutec for each module, official records are maintained in GWO's WINDA Database. You MUST have a WINDA ID to register for any GWO classes. Create your WINDA ID if you do not have one.
