Information

Bill Furry, executive director of the Illinois State Historical Society will return to give us the history and background stories on some of the new historical markers that have gone up around the state, and how you can help with the project. The ISHS markers program is designed to recognize sites of national or statewide significance, increasing public awareness and appreciation of our state's rich historical legacy. Since 1934, the Society has commemorated more than 400 sites describing people, events, and other subjects important to Illinois' cultural heritage. The Society relies on individuals who are passionate about their local history and are willing to help place markers, many of which highlight historically significant subjects that might otherwise remain obscure.
