Student Protections and AI Tool Selections, part of the AI Flash Innovative Course Series, is a hands-on course designed specifically for K-12 teachers to navigate the intersection of student privacy and emerging AI technology. Through a rich array of resources, including curated websites, AI-generated materials, YouTube videos, prompts, and interactive guides, you will learn to evaluate AI tools to determine if they meet legal standards that protect children.
In this course, you will:
. Navigate Student Well-Being Acts and state-level legal protections for AI use by children.
. Master FERPA and student data protection strategies to ensure 'privacy first' AI integration.
. Identify mandatory AI safety certifications and learn how to locate critical tool information.
. Compare Language Learning Models and AI teaching assistants' safety guardrails to make the best choice for student interaction.
. Utilize a professional Evaluator's Framework and rubric to assess any AI tool for classroom readiness.
. Provide transparency on AI use in your classroom through an FAQ document for parents. The course supports teachers at all levels of AI experience in education. Access to students is not necessary for successful course completion or mastery of the course objectives.
