Camp Detail: ACEA - Aerospace Career Exploration - Design with a Human Factors Mind
Who: Students Ages 15-18
When: TBD
Where: Daytona Beach, FL
Tuition: TBD
Design with a Human Factors Mind is a dynamic five-day summer camp for high school campers who want to understand how people interact with technology. Campers will become designers, researchers, and problem-solvers as they explore human factors, human performance, interface design, and how thoughtful design can make systems safer, smarter, and easier to use.
Working in teams, campers will tackle a real-world design challenge introduced on Day 1. They will analyze interfaces, apply design principles, conduct task and heuristic evaluations, construct surveys, test ideas with users, and prepare for a final judged design competition.
With guidance from ERAU faculty and doctoral student program managers and team advisors, campers will connect classroom learning to applications in aviation, aerospace, automobiles, eVTOL aircraft, video games, and other technology-driven environments. They may also explore how prototyping and artificial intelligence can support creative problem-solving while keeping people at the center of the design process. Campers will strengthen teamwork, communication, research, and presentation skills while discovering pathways inhuman factors, engineering, design, psychology, and technology.
Through hands-on activities, team-based challenges, and expert-led sessions, campers will explore essential fields such as:
- Human Factors
- Human Performance
- Interface and Product Design
- Survey Construction
- User Testing and Research Methods
- Design Communication and Presentation
- Team-Based Problem Solving
