Course Detail: EUR-1106 - A&P Maintenance Familiarization (General Aviation) in association with Ramstein Air Base

Overview

In collaboration with Ramstein Air Base (Germany), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is proud to offer the first A&P Maintenance Familiarization (GA category) course to military members based in Europe. The 5-day intensive hands-on course will be offered at the FAA-certified training facility at the Ramstein Air Base. Students will broaden their maintainer skills while working on a Cessna 172 Skyhawk. An experienced, A&P-licensed Embry-Riddle instructor will lead students through a rigorous and intensive week reviewing general aviation aircraft knowledge and theory as it applies to aviation mechanic general standards, aviation mechanic airframe standards, and aviation mechanic powerplant standards. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to perform tasks on the aircraft and powerplant directly.

Are You Ready

This Embry-Riddle course is designed specifically for individuals who satisfy the following requirements:

  • Students must be active-duty members of any branch of the United States Armed Forces
  • Students must have documented proof ("Permission to Test") that they have passed the written FAA exams required for aviation mechanics
  • Students must have applied and received approval for their service branch's COOL (Credentialing Opportunities On-Line) program, unless paying through an alternative funding source

Course Goals

This course is designed to provide knowledge and basic practical skills applicable to general aviation (GA) aircraft maintenance. The fundamentals and technical procedures in the subject matter area are designed to introduce general aviation (GA) specific content and prepare the student for further study in the area of aviation maintenance. Upon successful completion the student will gain a greater understanding of practical skills and knowledge applicable to general aviation (GA) maintenance technicians and should be able to:

  • Exhibit general aviation (GA) aircraft knowledge applicable to the aviation mechanic general standards outlined in Section I of FAA-S-8081-26A: Aviation Mechanic General - Practical Test Standards.
  • Exhibit general aviation (GA) aircraft knowledge applicable to the aviation mechanic airframe standards outlined in Sections II and III of FAA-8081-27: Aviation Mechanic Airframe - Practical Test Standards.
  • Exhibit general aviation (GA) aircraft knowledge applicable to the aviation mechanic powerplant standards outlined in Sections IV and V of FAA-8081-28: Aviation Mechanic Powerplant - Practical Test Standards.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform tasks on general aviation (GA) aircraft related to the aviation mechanic general standards outlined in Section I of FAA-S-8081-26A: Aviation Mechanic General - Practical Test Standards.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform tasks on general aviation (GA) aircraft related to the aviation mechanic airframe standards outlined in Sections II and III of FAA-8081-27: Aviation Mechanic Airframe - Practical Test Standards.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform tasks on general aviation (GA) aircraft related to the aviation mechanic powerplant standards outlined in Sections IV and V of FAA-8081-28: Aviation Mechanic Powerplant - Practical Test Standards.

Course Information

This is an in-person hands-on practical training course that meets daily from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm at the Ramstein Air Base. Certificates are available upon completion of the course.
