Course Description: Mountain Biking: Beginners

Discover the thrill of mountain biking in a fun and supportive environment! This beginner-friendly course covers essential biking skills, trail safety, and basic bike maintenance to help you ride with confidence. Learn proper body positioning, braking techniques, and how to navigate different terrains while practicing on beginner-friendly trails. Whether you're new to the sport or looking to improve your skills, this course will get you ready for your next adventure on two wheels! Students are responsible for self-transport to the field. All sessions are held at Phil's Mountain Bike Trailhead.

What to Bring for Mountain Biking for Beginners: Skills & Safety


To ensure a fun and safe experience, please come prepared with the following:

Required Gear:
·A Mountain Bike - A properly fitted, trail-ready bike in good working condition. Front suspension (hardtail) or full suspension is recommended.
·Helmet - A certified cycling helmet is mandatory for all participants.
·Closed-Toe Shoes - Sturdy, flat-soled athletic or mountain biking shoes for better grip and control.
·Water & Snacks - Hydration is key! Bring a water bottle or hydration pack, along with some snacks for energy.
·Appropriate Clothing - Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate athletic clothing that allows for movement. Layers are recommended. Check the weather forecast before the class!

Recommended Gear:
·Gloves - Biking gloves provide extra grip and hand protection.
·Knee & Elbow Pads - Protective gear can boost confidence, especially for new riders.
·Sunglasses or Clear Lenses - Protect your eyes from dust, sun, and debris.
·Small Backpack or Hip Pack - Handy for carrying essentials like water, snacks, and an extra layer.

Cancellation Policy

Students must cancel by contacting our office via phone: (541) 383-7270 or email: ceinfo@cocc.edu. Cancellations received 5 days prior to the start of the class will receive a full refund. Full refunds are also issued for classes cancelled by COCC. Refunds will be issued back to your card or in the form of a check and mailed within two weeks of the cancellation date if paid by check or cash. Failure to participate in a course or program does not result in a refund. Exceptions to the general refund policy are noted in the course descriptions on our website and in the printed schedule.
