Course Description: Creative Nonfiction: Literary Journalism

What is creative nonfiction, and why is it so popular these days? This class introduces students to writing creative nonfiction. Emphasizing literary journalism on such topics as science, nature, travel and cultural criticism. Writers with a range of experience will practice prose craft exercises, critical reading of published authors and responding constructively to other writers' work. Experience this dynamic genre with Greg Lyons, a long-standing and popular COCC faculty member, and write some creative nonfiction of your own. All skill levels welcome!

Required Book for this Class: Contemporary Creative Nonfiction: The Art of Truth, by Bill Roorbach, published by Oxford University Press, 2001; ISBN: 978-0195135565. Students should acquire the book before the first class. The book is available through many online book vendors.
