Course Description: Creative Nonfiction: Literary Journalism

What is creative nonfiction, and why is it so popular these days? This class introduces students to writing creative nonfiction. Emphasizing literary journalism on such topics as science, nature, travel and cultural criticism. Writers with a range of experience will practice prose craft exercises, critical reading of published authors and responding constructively to other writers' work. Experience this dynamic genre with Greg Lyons, a long-standing and popular COCC faculty member, and write some creative nonfiction of your own. All skill levels welcome!

Greg Lyons

Biography: Greg Lyons earned his Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Texas at Austin. For twenty-two years, he served as Professor of English at COCC. In that time, he designed and taught a 4-credit Creative Nonfiction course several times. For six years, he coordinated a college study-abroad program with sites in Mexico, Costa Rica, London and Florence, where he taught for two quarters. His own writing projects include a memoir, Shape Up or Ship Out: An Army Childhood.

Full refunds are also issued for classes cancelled by COCC. Refunds will be issued back to your card or in the form of a check and mailed within two weeks of the cancellation date if paid by check or cash.
