Course Description: Acrylic Painting Magic: Landscapes

Join David Kinker, a renowned artist from Central Oregon with 30 years of experience. David is not only a painter and muralist but also an art instructor and river enthusiast. Together, you will embark on a creative adventure and experience the magic of painting. In this unique acrylic painting class, discover how to create powerful visual impact, turning a flat surface into a window of depth, variety, and colorful interactions. Learn to see landscapes in new ways using David's five visual harmonies: texture, value, analogous color, intensity, and color interaction. Understand and apply the psychology of sight as a guide in composing a dynamic painted image. Find out how color is an extension of light and form, and learn to mix color with control and confidence. Start to see the world from an artist's perspective, build a "toolkit" of skills and concepts to form your own personal painting style, and practice painting in an encouraging environment. This class is great for anyone who wants the distilled secrets to beautiful acrylic painting without the fluff. All skill levels are welcome!

Additional Course Information

Required Supplies: One 12" x 16" canvas per class (can be purchased at the COCC Bookstore or from any vendor of your choice). All other materials provided. If you already have acrylic painting supplies that you prefer, like brushes, etc., you are welcome to bring them to class.

David Kinker

Biography: Grateful for the opportunity to live out the passions of his life, Bend, Oregon artist David Kinker feels equally at home guiding a raft full of adventurers through the most scenic rivers of the Northwest and beyond, as he does guiding the minds of aspiring artists, helping them discover their inner muse. David is well known for his murals in many regional landmarks such as the Tower Theater, Silver Moon Brewery, St Charles Medical Center, and many other locations. His colorful abstracts have won awards, and his river and canyon landscapes are glimpses into the beauty here in the Northwest. David's landscape paintings can be found at Tumalo Art Company in Bend's Old Mill. Students must cancel by contacting our office via phone: (541) 383-7270 or email: ceinfo@cocc.edu. Cancellations received 5 days prior to the start of the class will receive a full refund. Full refunds are also issued for classes cancelled by COCC. Refunds will be issued back to your card or in the form of a check and mailed within two weeks of the cancellation date if paid by check or cash. Failure to participate in a course or program does not result in a refund. Exceptions to the general refund policy are noted in the course descriptions on our website and in the printed schedule.
