Course Description: Henna Design: History and Hands-On Practice

Did you know henna has a rich history dating back to the Egyptians? Famously known as "mehndi", this class explores the vast art of henna, its cultural traditions and safe application on the body and other textiles. This course will teach you the history and ever-changing culture of henna body art, learning how to roll a henna cone, creating your own fresh henna recipe for paste, and practicing a selection of essential designs to jumpstart your artistic style.  You will walk away with a deeper understanding of henna's roots as a form of body art and its therapeutic value. Henna safety and the precautions needed in using various ingredients will be covered**. You'll come away from this class with your very own custom henna kit that includes all-natural henna paste, aftercare information and everything you need to practice on your own or with others.

**For health and safety, mild essential oils will be used in this course. An alternate paste will be available for those who are sensitive to lemons, essential oils on the skin, or a rare G6 anemia disorder. Please inform your instructor before class if this applies to you.

Additional Course Information

**For health & safety, mild essential oils will be used in this course. An alternate paste will be available for those who are sensitive to lemons or the topical use of essential oils. Please let Community Education know at least one week before class begins if you have been diagnosed with G6 anemia so the instructor can make adjustments to the materials to make them safe for your participation.

Cancellation Policy

Students must cancel by contacting our office via phone: (541) 383-7270 or email: ceinfo@cocc.edu. Cancellations received 5 days prior to the start of the class will receive a full refund. Full refunds are also issued for classes cancelled by COCC. Refunds will be issued back to your card or in the form of a check and mailed within two weeks of the cancellation date if paid by check or cash. Failure to participate in a course or program does not result in a refund. Exceptions to the general refund policy are noted in the course descriptions on our website and in the printed schedule.
