Instructor: Judith Warren

Biography: Judy Warren earned her B.A. and M.A. in Geography from U.C. Berkeley, with a specialization in Physical Geography, and a Western North America regional specialization. Her Master's Thesis was titled: "An Historical Geography of the Lumber Industry in the Northern Sierra and Southern Cascades."

Judy taught disaster preparedness courses as a volunteer for the Santa Clara, San Benito and Humboldt County Chapters of the American Red Cross for many years. She developed and taught the national award-winning Red Cross course, "Living on the Faultline and Along the Coast," a three-hour class that addressed North Coast earthquake and tsunami disaster preparedness. Judy was certified as a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Instructor-Trainer in 2003.

Judy was one of the authors of "Living on Shaky Ground: How to Survive Earthquakes and Tsunamis in Northern California," now utilized and distributed by the Oregon Emergency Management Agency. Judy worked with Dr. Lori Dengler at Humboldt State University where they planned and implemented the Del Norte Earthquake and Tsunami Awareness Program and other projects funded by the California Emergency Management Agency. These included a nine-year project to create and teach statewide a new public disaster preparedness course based on "Living on Shaky Ground." More than 6,000 individuals have attended these classes in person, with countless others viewing the course on the Humboldt/Del Norte public access channel.

Prior to relocating to Central Oregon, Judy was the co-founder, regional coordinator, and instructor for Humboldt State University's Regional Training Institute - Community Disaster Preparedness. Judy was granted a lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential with subject areas of Earth Sciences (including Geology, Geography and Geophysics), Forestry, Natural Resources and Related Technologies. She has been the principal author of the corporate disaster response plans for major government contractors.
