Biography: When Paul started playing serious chess in the 70's, he won a classical tournament game against the now International Grand Master Yasser Seirawan when Yasser was the Seattle Junior Speed Chess Champion. In the same year, Paul won a Central Oregon Chess Championship held in Redmond. Though that was long ago, Paul still knows how the pieces move and loves to talk about all things chess. Though Paul has traveled extensively, both in and out of the country during his younger years, he calls the Pacific Northwest, "Home" and has lived in Bend for 40 years. Chess and solving ciphers are Paul's inside recreation. Outside, as a young man, Paul summited the major Cascade Peaks. These days (older and wiser) he enjoys XC skiing, hammock camping, and kayak expeditions to the San Juan Islands and Vancouver Island B.C.
