Course Description: ENG 106Z: Introduction to Poetry

The study of poetry invites us to delve into the biggest questions about life and culture alongside the seemingly smallest issues of words and sounds. English 106Z provides opportunities for the appreciation of poetry, including deeper awareness of craft and insight into how reading poetry can lead to self-enrichment. Students read a variety of types of poetry and poetic forms, from diverse perspectives and eras, and develop their skills in discussion, literary analysis, and critical thinking. This is a college-level course. Although assignments, tests, and quizzes are optional for Community Education students, you will be expected to fully participate. A textbook may be required for this course. Please check with the COCC Bookstore. This is a non-credit Community Education class. You will not receive college credit.

Full refunds are also issued for classes cancelled by COCC. Refunds will be issued back to your card or in the form of a check and mailed within two weeks of the cancellation date if paid by check or cash. Failure to participate in a course or program does not result in a refund. Exceptions to the general refund policy are noted in the course descriptions on our website and in the printed schedule.
