This two (2) day course is designed to provide law enforcement officers and analysts with foundational knowledge and practical strategies for recognizing, identifying, documenting, and investigating street gangs and gang-related activities. Instruction will focus on identifying gang members, associates, symbols, insignia, and other indicators of gang affiliation: developing and evaluation sources of information regarding gang activity within the community; and utilizing social media and open-source information to support gang investigations. The course will introduce intelligence-led policing strategies for collecting, analyzing, and sharing gang-related information to identify emerging trends, active offenders, criminal networks, and areas of gang activity. Emphasis will be placed on using actionable intelligence to support investigative priorities, resource allocation, targeted enforcement, and gang suppression initiatives. Participants will also examine the importance of information sharing, intelligence development, and coordination among local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies when addressing criminal activity including but not limited to street gangs.
