Course Detail: CE.POL-027 - Computer Crimes-Computer Search/Seizure
This is a one (1) day BASIC course designed tointroduce the Law Enforcement Officer to the safemethods used to retrieve evidence during a searchwarrant or patrol stop. The primary focus of thecourse is to give the "street officer" theability to recognize computers, diskettes, tapes,and CD's as evidence even if the crime is notdirectly related to computers initially. Thecourse will teach computer seizure and willdemonstrate the proper techniques used to "taband bag," the proper handling of the evidencefollowing the seizure, as well as basic hands-onforensic methods using machines developed for theprogram. Following the course, students will beable to recognize computer media as evidence inan array of crimes and will safely demonstrateteh seizure of equipment. A basic knowledge ofcomputers and operating systems is not necessary.NOTE: Students are required to bring a copy ofelectronic media to class.
