Course Detail: WTME112 - Meter Apprenticeship 1B

This 15-week class meets for 8 hours twice per month. Students must attend 40 hours' worth of labs. As a result of this training students will be able to identify safety protocols for qualified employee training, safety compliance, and job briefings; demonstrate correct use of various measuring instruments including voltmeter, ohmmeter, power analyzer and oscilloscope Diagram a single-phase meter system and identify characteristics of watt-hour meters based upon a meter's nameplate, then calculate the dial multiplier of self-contained meters, as well as constants, meter registers and demand registers; define Alternating Current (AC) and identify the differences between AC and DC and identify the types and voltages of primary and secondary cells, demonstrate connecting batteries and solar cells, and cell construction, then discuss conduction in liquids and gasses and the hazards associated with electroplating and ionization; define exponential curve, henry (H), eddy current, hysteresis, R-L time constant, describe the factors that determine the amount and polarity of an induced voltage related to magnetic and electromagnetic induction, then calculate time it takes for a current to reach its full value; and explain Pythagorean Theorem and how it pertains to using basic trigonometry to solve for vectors, instantaneous values of voltage and current for a sine wave, and the peak, RMS, and average values of voltage and current in an AC Circuit.
