Mother's Day Ikebana Workshop

Celebrate Mother's Day with a unique bonding experience at our special parent-child Ikebana floral design workshop geared toward families. Led by esteemed Ikenobo School instructor Paula Tam and assistant Yiwei Zhang, this engaging session invites parents and children to dive into the art of Ikebana—the Japanese style of flower arranging. Each duo will learn basic Ikebana practices and embrace Eastern aesthetics as they work together to create two beautiful arrangements, inspired by Mother's Day, for participants to take home, including flowers, a kenzan (pin frog), containers, and packing materials for safe transport. No prior experience needed; just bring your creativity and enjoy the journey!

The cost includes all floral and hard good materials for two participants (one adult and one child). Child participant must be 6 years of age or older.

Instructor:	Paula Tam Paula Tam Paula Tam As a Professor of Ikenobo Ikebana, Paula Tam has served as the Ikebana Coordinator of the Japanese Gallery at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, President of Ikenobo California Pacific Chapter, Board Member of Ikebana International NY Chapter, and Former President of Ikebana International New York Chapter. Paula Tam has been studying Ikenobo ikebana for 30 years, starting with her Introductory Ikenobo diploma in 1991 and was awarded the rank of "Sokatoku", rank #18, the highest Ikenobo Diploma in Ikenobo Floral Art in 2022. She has graduated from the Ikenobo Central Training Institute in Kyoto. In the last 10 years she has been passionately teaching and promoting ikebana. Her arrangements have been exhibited in New York, Shanghai, Malaysia and Kyoto; including in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New Museum, Tenri Gallery, Japanese Stroll Garden, Japanese Ambassadors' residences, among others. She has given ikebana demonstrations at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, SinoVision TV station and for Ikebana International New York Chapter. Her passion in ikebana propels her to pursue higher levels of studies continuously. Yiwei Zhang Yiwei Zhang Yiwei Zhang Yiwei Zhang is a creative producer with a focus on fashion photography and an ardent practitioner of Ikebana. She holds the prestigious Ikenobo 1st grade instructor status,awarded by the Ikenobo School in Kyoto, Japan. To complement her artistic talents, she pursued the Gardening and Horticulture: Sustainable Garden Design Certificate Programs at the New York Botanical Garden, enriching her expertise in horticulture. Beyond her personal artistic endeavors, Yiwei is devoted to advocating for Ikebana, striving to share its exquisite beauty and cultural significance with a wider audience. Currently, she serves as the Vice President and Program Chair for Ikebana International New York chapter, a worldwide organization dedicated to promoting appreciation and celebration of the art of Ikebana.
