Instructor: Crystal Shin

Crystal Shin
Korean-born, Crystal Shin was the primary illustrator on the renowned plant identification manual, the 2nd edition of Flora of the Pacific Northwest at the University of Washington. She currently works for the University's Herbarium and Paleontology department, and her illustrations have appeared in scientific journals and The New York Times. As a botanical artist working in colored pencil, she is drawn to capturing the luminous colors and details of plants.

Shin has taught numerous art classes both online and in person for botanical organizations, gardens, and art schools. She presented her methods in the Online Technique Showcase for the 2022 ASBA conference and taught a class at the 2023 ASBA conference.

As an instructor, she offers her intuitive understanding of color and her ability to broaden her students' insight, while endeavoring to provide effective examples and solutions to their questions.
