Bridging Futures Symposium

Event Description: In collaboration with Governors State University's Counseling and Wellness Center, The Village Project, and the Youth In Care-College Advocate Program, the Bridging Futures Symposium is a transformative event dedicated to empowering foster youth and students experiencing homelessness in their pursuit of higher education. Bringing together educators, social workers, policymakers, and individuals with lived experience, this symposium explores systemic barriers, highlights effective support programs, and advocates for policy reforms. Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, attendees will engage in meaningful dialogue, share resources, and build networks to create stronger pathways to academic success. By fostering collaboration among stakeholders, the event aims to enhance equity, inclusion, and long-term opportunities for these students.
 
There are four overarching categories for breakout sessions.
1.Understanding Barriers: Identifying the systemic, financial, and emotional obstacles that hinder foster youth from pursuing and completing college education.
2.Support Systems: Highlighting successful support programs and initiatives that provide academic, financial, and emotional support to foster youth.
3.Policy Advocacy: Discussing current policies and potential reforms that can facilitate smoother transitions from foster care to higher education.
4.Collaboration and Networking: Creating a network of professionals and stakeholders committed to supporting foster youth through their educational journeys

      Description:

      This course introduces students to Mandarin Chinese with a focus on business communication and cultural understanding. Designed for students pursuing careers in international business, the course covers essential language skills and business-specific vocabulary while providing insights into Chinese business practices and culture. Students will engage in task-based learning and develop professional communication skills. Upon completion, students will have the opportunity to earn official proficiency credentials through the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI).

Our Mindful Business Class is designed to help entrepreneurs, leaders, and professionals harness the power of mindfulness to improve decision-making, reduce stress, enhance workplace culture, and act with purpose.

      Title:  Understanding Individualized Education Programs: Training in Language and Practice

      Description: This six-week, self-paced online course is designed to make the special education process more accessible, transparent, and empowering. Participants will build essential knowledge about Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including their legal foundations, key components, and the roles and responsibilities of IEP team members. The course is designed to help parents, paraprofessionals, and general education teachers participate more confidently in IEP development and decision-making through clear explanations, real-world examples, and user-friendly resources. Emphasis is placed on demystifying language used in IEPs.
