Join an information session to learn more about Aviation Ground School at GovState and Flight School at Bult Field South Suburban Airport.

Pilot Training - Discovery Flights
Course Fee: $200
Dates: Please call to schedule your flight time, 708.534.4099. This is a one-hour flight experience with an instructor. You will learn essential aviation principles, safety procedures, and aircraft controls. You will get to fly the plane.

Private Pilot Ground School

Private Pilot Ground School

Dates: June 3 to July 15, 2025.
Times: Tuesdays, Thursdays 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Course Description: The objective of this course is to orient the incoming student to flight training and provide the theory and concepts needed for preparing for the FAA private pilot aeronautical knowledge test (airplane). Flight time fees not included. Topics include: airplane systems, aerodynamics, flight instruments, procedures & airport operations, communications procedures, weather, regulations, weather services, aircraft performance, navigation, route flight, and cross-country flight planning.

Course Description: The objective of this course is to become a Certified Flight Instructor and be able to teach the following courses: Private Pilot License, Instrument Rating License, and Commercial Pilot License.
Prerequisite: Private Pilot License, Instrument Rating License, and Commercial Pilot License. Recommended to be 16 or older, may begin training at an earlier age.

Course Description: Multi-Engine Commercial add-on (Allows a holder of a commercial single-engine license to extend their commercial license to the multi-engine airplane. Once obtained, this add-on allows for multi-engine airplane use for personal and commercial use.
Prerequisite: Private Pilot License, Instrument Rating License, and Commercial Pilot License. Recommended to be 16 or older, may begin training at an earlier age.

Instrument Rating Ground School

Instrument Rating Ground School

Course Description: The objective of this course is to train for an instrument rating where students will receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor on several aeronautical knowledge areas.
Aeronautical Knowledge areas include:
- Federal Aviation Regulations that apply to flight operations under IFR;
- Appropriate information that applies to flight operations under IFR in the "Aeronautical Information Manual;"
- Air traffic control system and procedures for instrument flight operations;
- IFR navigation and approaches by use of navigation systems;
- Use of IFR en route and instrument approach procedure charts;
- Procurement and use of aviation weather reports and forecasts and the elements of forecasting weather trends based on that information and personal observation of weather conditions;
- Safe and efficient operation of aircraft under instrument flight rules and conditions;
- Recognition of critical weather situations and windshear avoidance;
- Aeronautical decision making and judgment; and
- Crew resource management, including crew communication and coordination.
Prerequisite: Private Pilot License.
Recommended to be 16 or older, may begin training at an earlier age.
