Each class in this series will focus on a challenging part of the human body for artists. Students will work from 2D still reference images.

Paint a picture using fundamental painting techniques and non-toxic materials. Students may select their own subject matter or work from a still life that is provided. Students will visit the Detroit Institute of Arts to find inspiration for their own work.

Learn the various elements that make up a graphic novel and web comic such as story, framing, movement, image content, and text. Traditional and digital tools will be used to create various layouts.

Create your own character for a game or animation in three dimensions. Learn the basics of Blender, a powerful 3D design tool that is used by the gaming, animation and film industries.

Create images that tell a story! Using Wacom tablets and pens, create a series of digital paintings of your chosen subject matter to include in your portfolio.

Learn animation fundamentals. Develop and enhance your hand-drawing techniques and apply your skills to computer animation software.

ONLINE. Create your own characters and the world they live in. Draw your characters with a variety of facial expressions, poses, outfits, environments and more. Hand drawn and digital materials will be used.

Capture the vibrant people and places of Detroit such as Eastern Market and the Dequindre Cut. Experiment in CCS state of the art photo studios. Learn to enhance your images in the digital dark room using Adobe Photoshop®.

Hit the road with a set of watercolors and paint the town. Learn the basics of watercolor painting while visiting some of the coolest places in Detroit and around campus.

Create your own cartoon characters and the world they live in. Draw your characters with a variety of moods, facial expressions and dynamic gestures using a digital tablet and pen.

Working from clothed models, students will learn the fundamental techniques to draw the human figure more realistically. This class will also sketch at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Learn essential metalsmithing techniques to create wearable works of art. Explore casting and etching as well as develop patinas for your unique jewelry pieces. Basic metals and supplies will be provided.

SELLING OUT FAST! Learn the basics of wheel throwing and hand building to create your own functional and decorative ceramics. Students will create multiple pieces and explore different glazing techniques.

Focus on the essential skills needed to create more realistic portraits such as proportions, line, and lighting. Students will work from a live, clothed model during parts of the course and visit the Detroit Institute of Arts.
