Course Detail: NP306 - Nonprofit Fund Development

This course offers an overview of the history of philanthropy, its changing environment, and the current state of fund development. New perspectives and approaches to fund development will be explored in light of current events. We will examine the various sources of funding, ways to determine which sources best align with organizational mission, and ways to meaningfully connect with specific donors. Students will distinguish and weigh the elements required to develop a balanced fund development plan. The value of storytelling in the fund development process will be probed and a connection drawn between compelling storytelling and developing organizational impact statements. We will examine racism in philanthropy and fund development, and validate the imperative to practice diversity, equity, and inclusion in this field.
