Course Detail: C_AGRITOURISM - Agri-Tourism in Rural Maine

18 Years of age or older. IDs will be checked at event. Sorry no refunds will be made if underage.

Students will experience first-hand how farms and food producers are engaging visitors in authentic experiences through tours, farm activities, value-added products, and farm to table food service. The class takes place in rural Piscataquis County, Maine.

Students will visit a maple syrup producer, vegetable farm and café, and a Christmas tree farm to learn their value within the Local Food Movement, assess how these traditional agricultural businesses are transforming the landscape, and understand the impacts on local communities and the visitor economy. Plus, we get to eat some delicious food in a beautiful part of the State of Maine! All transportation and meals provided in course fee.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn the contributions of agritourism to the Maine economy and the Local Food Movement in rural Maine.
  • Be able to assess how traditional agricultural businesses are transforming the landscape.
  • Understand the impacts of agritourism sites on local communities and visitor economy.
  • Enhance knowledge of how to engage visitors in authentic experiences through tours, farm activities, value-added products, and farm to table food service.
