Course Detail: O_FAVSS - Reading and Discussing Favorite Short Stories

If you're a fan of the short story, and if you've ever been put off by the "English teacher exegesis" style of reading, this repeat class might be for you; it will focus on thought-provoking questions and relaxed discussions as we read a variety of short stories each week. We can ask some standard questions regarding characters, setting, motivation, and conflict - and my experience with OLLI students has proven that discussions range widely and interestingly. We'll begin with authors such as Kate Chopin, Andre Dubus, Shirley Jackson, or Edgar Allan Poe, and you'll have a chance to add your favorite to the list. Some stories will be new and others repeats and participants must be comfortable pulling stories from the textbook.
