Mediation introduces you to alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and the process and skills of mediation. It provides 40 hours of training, which is a state and national standard for entry-level mediators.

Course work addresses:

  • Definition, roles, and skills of the mediator

  • Stages of the mediation process

  • Conflict diagnoses and interventions

  • Diversity and bias awareness

  • Professional standards and ethics

  • Effective communication interventions

  • Power imbalance identification and management skills.


CLE Credits: There are 16 CLE Credits approved to be awarded upon completion of this program. For more information on how to claim earned CLE Credits, please visit the Maine Board of Overseers Annual Continued Education Credit (CLE) reporting website.


Who Should Attend?

The course is designed for individuals who are interested in mediating or applying the process of mediation to their profession or in their workplace.

The registration fee includes all materials.

Class Format:

Online classes will be interactive and include a mix of pre-work assignments and live-online class discussions. You may participate in active dialogue, reflection, explore real-life scenarios, or group activities to demonstrate your understanding and share meaning. Come prepared to engage and explore new ways of learning and relationship-building. 

***Please Note***This class will require pre-work to be done before class starts as well as during the class in order to allow for less online presence. Registration will be closed one week prior to class. The online "asynchronous" component of the course are intended to constitute about 16 hours of study. We will spend the other 24 hours together on Zoom over 4 days. 

Our daily schedule on Zoom together will be 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. We cover about 6 hours of actual instruction each day with 2 morning breaks, 2 afternoon breaks, and a longer lunch break.
