The Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (LSSBB) certification program is broken out into 10 sessions. Students select and work on a real problem while applying learned techniques and tools to effectively resolve the problem and meet specified project goals. Students will utilize advanced statistical software and learn additional tools to enhance their skills.
One of the key roles of a Black Belt or Master Black Belt is to be a mentor and coach to Green Belts and other team members. As part of this program, students will have opportunities to teach topics simulating what they must do in the real world. The program prepares students for the University of South Florida Black Belt certification exam and is applicable to project managers, process engineers, industrial engineers and operational managers.
This course contains no sessions
This program focuses on managing quality projects utilizing the fundamentals of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. Lean topics include the concepts of the elimination of waste and reduction of cycle time in organizational processes. Six Sigma principles consist of problem solving techniques, data collection and analysis, reduction of process variation, process capability and cost analysis.
The program is designed to help students prepare for the University of South Florida's Green Belt certification and is applicable to project managers, project team participants, business analysts, technical specialists, and others who want to improve business processes utilizing proven quality methodologies.
Learning to build and use quality processes has been shown to increase customer satisfaction and eliminate waste. Students will learn the principles of the DMAIC process to achieve these goals:
- Define a project
- Measure the process through data collection and process reviews
- Analyze the data utilizing statistical tools
- Improve the process by creating effective solutions
- Control to ensure the process continues to meet its output objectives
Students are required to select and work on a real problem while applying learned techniques and tools to effectively resolve the problem and meet specified project goals. Students also learn how to utilize statistical software.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive the University of South Florida's Green Belt certification. To receive certification, students must successfully complete a project, give a presentation of their final storyboard, meet attendance requirements and pass a final exam.
