Cast: Liza Minnelli, Michael York, Joel Grey, Helmut Griem, Fritz Wepper, Marisa Berenson "Cabaret" is generally regarded as the most influential musical in cinema history. Unlike traditional Hollywood musicals, where characters spontaneously break into song to advance the plot, the music in "Cabaret" acts as social and political commentary. The songs are performed as part of a show within the story and not as the inner monologues of the characters. "Cabaret" is a masterful critique of political apathy, escapism, and the rise of fascism. The film is a warning to all about trading freedom and morality for temporary comfort and a false sense of security.
