FA 150: Introduction to the Fine Arts

Introduction to the fundamental principles of the Fine Arts -- Visual Arts, Music, Theatre, and Dance -- followed by examples of the interaction of the arts in selected cultures from history and around the world and at a variety of campus arts events, in order to increase appreciation of the importance of the fine arts to the individual and community.

Please read through the following important information prior to submitting your registration:

Extensions: The extension option advertised below should not be purchased in conjunction with this course. If they are purchased at the same time, your extension purchase will be cancelled and refunded. Information regarding how to purchase an extension will be emailed to you approximately one month prior to your assigned course end date.

SPEA Application: Prior to checking out with payment, you will be prompted to fill out our SPEA (Self-Paced Enroll Anytime) application form. Please read the question below thoroughly so that you are prepared to answer it accordingly on the application form. Answering the question incorrectly will delay the process of gaining course access.

Have you previously attended or been admitted to UND, either on-campus or online? If you are brand new to the University of North Dakota system, please select 'No'. By selecting 'No', a $35 application fee will be automatically added to your shopping cart. In order to receive a UND Student ID and course access, this fee must be paid up front. If you are an existing or returning UND student, please select 'Yes' to this question.

Cancellation Policy

Withdrawals received 1 to 30 calendar days after your registration date will be refunded 100% of the course tuition. Withdrawals received 31 to 60 calendar days after your registration date will be refunded 50% of the course tuition. No refunds are available if UND receives your Withdrawal after 61+ calendar days after your registration date. The 1-time UND Admission Fee of $35 is non-refundable.

More Info: Dr. Karen Devers received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Adult Education from the University of North Dakota. She earned her Master of Fine Arts from UND and her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Minnesota State University-Moorhead. Dr. Devers also completed a summer international study program at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. In addition to teaching for UND, Dr. Devers has taught art to Norwegian and American students majoring in business at the Ostfold Academy in Norway. She also has designed and taught campus and distance art and education courses for Alliant International University in Irvine, California. Her book, Awaken Your Holistic Brain: Getting Logic and Imagination to Work for You, was published by Imagine Art! in 2006. Currently, Dr. Devers is an Instructional Systems Designer at Banfield, The Pet Hospital at Central Team Support in Portland, Oregon. She lives with her cat, Katy Kat, who she rescued from Chula Vista, California, and her mini-Dachsund-Pomeranian mix, Maxine, who she rescued from Spring, Texas. She enjoys walking, reading, sewing, gardening, cooking, and watching Katy and Maxine play together.
