Matyas Marek: International Master

Do you have a student looking to grow as a competitive chess player? Are you interested in affordable and personalized instruction? Students in UMBC'S chess development program, Chess Academy, will work one-on-one with an experienced, titled player from the UMBC Chess Team.

Our coaches evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your student to design a customized course of instruction, focusing on opening, middle-game, and endgame techniques, that will help develop your student as a competitive chess player.

International Master, Matyas Marek is originally from the Czech Republic and is our newest UMBC Chess Team member. He is an International Master who has represented the Czech Republic at various Youth Championships, including the World Youth Chess Championships (Turkey, 2008; UAE, 2013; Greece, 2015; Russia, 2016), World Youth Team Olympiad (China, 2013), European Youth Championship (Georgia, 2015), and European Youth Team Championship (Poland, 2015). He won the Czech Youth Championship in various age categories nine times. Matyas is in his second year at UMBC, studying Bioinformatics.
