Course Detail: GUIT304 - MUSIC ACADEMY: GUITAR INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED (Middle & High School)
GUITAR INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED: Do you love playing guitar and want to take your skills to the next level? This course is designed to help students move beyond the basics and hone their skills playing guitar. The SEA Guitar Academy invites intermediate and advanced guitarists to participate in an intensive week-long course designed to help challenge and improve their guitar skills. Regardless of the style of music played or previously learned, this program will help students develop a multitude of skills through a wide set of lessons and workshops. Students will gain a wide range of knowledge by playing guitar (solo and in a group) and exploring the principles of music theory, composition and songwriting.
Students who are interested in signing up for the Intermediate/Advanced are expected to have a comfortable grasp and understanding of the following skills:
- All open position major, minor and dominant seventh chords.
- Major, minor and dominant seventh barre chords based on 5 and 6 strings.
- Major and minor scales.
- Ability to sight-read simple melodies in first position.
- Basic familiarity of fingerboard in 5th and 7th position.
The Intermediate/Advanced session is open to experienced students who have studied the instrument or demonstrated an advanced skill level of play. If you are unsure as to whether or not your current level or ability is right for the Intermediate/Advanced session, please send a video link with a sample of your playing to firstname.lastname@example.org
Classes will be held at UMBC's state of the art music facilities and will be taught by UMBC music faculty. Students must bring their own steel-string or classical guitar.
LUNCH: Students staying for full day or for both morning and afternoon sessions can bring or buy their lunch. All students will eat lunch on Campus in The Commons, a small food court.
