Course Detail: BIOT110 - BIOTECHNOLOGY GMP FACILITY DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND VALIDATION (BTEC 666)

BIOTECHNOLOGY GMP FACILITY DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND VALIDATION 

This course presents an in-depth discussion of the engineering design of biotechnology manufacturing facilities under GMP compliance. Topics covered include architectural considerations, bulk plant design, process equipment design, utilities, instrumentation, controls and computerization, facility and equipment validation and trends for future facilities. Participants will be engaged in case studies, virtual facility tours and hands-on facility design projects.

The following are the objectives for this course: 

1. Have an understanding of the salient features and requirements for a biotech manufacturing facility meeting CGMP compliance. 
2. Acquire exposure to the steps involved in building a biotech GMP manufacturing facility from the initial planning stages to the final commissioning and validation activities. 
3. Become knowledgeable of the typical systems, utilities and equipment requirements for a biotechnology GMP facility through discussion of case studies and engagement in real world example projects.

This course is not limited to UMBC students and is open to the general public. This course is offered in our Live Online Synchronous format.  All lectures will be recorded to accommodate international students and professionals with challenging schedules.
