Systems Modeling Language (SysML) for Government Engineers
Learn the basics of Model-Based Engineering (MBE)/Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and how it can be utilized to support the development of requirements, architecture, and many other systems engineering (SE) processes on a defense program. Learn the difference between MBSE and Digital Engineering (DE) as defined by the DoD's 2018 Digital Engineering Strategy. Learn the Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and its importance to MBSE, along with the use of SysML as a way to describe system structure, behavior, requirements, and the analytical relationships within a system. This course is a blended live/self-paced (BLS) online format to introduce concepts that can be immediately applied to a set of intuitive MBSE example projects.
The course will begin with an overview of MBSE, including the importance of modeling, its relationship to common SE processes, and common MBSE languages, tools, and methodologies. Most of the course will then cover the nine types of SysML diagrams and their potential application on a project, tying each area to a question that the system engineer is trying to answer. For each diagram type, you will have access to an MBSE software tool to build an example diagram at your own pace. As each diagram is completed, you will gain an understanding of the reusability of SysML model elements from diagram to diagram. With the resulting knowledge, you will be equipped to expand the MBE/MBSE capabilities in your organization.
This course is designed for engineers, scientists, managers, and technicians interested in model-based engineering, including people who need to author SysML models themselves, review SysML models, and/or lead other people who will do such things.
Course Benefits:
- Recognize the SysML diagram types and understand their constructs/applications to day-to-day work scenarios.
- Learn the role of SysML in MBE/MBSE/DE, including how it supports systems engineering methods.
- Understand the benefits and costs of implementing SysML models in a real tool (versus sketching diagrams in a drawing tool).
- Learn how SysML bridges diverse models for analysis, simulation, and trade studies.
- Experience how SysML supports model-based acquisition during a capstone competition.
- Gain exposure to executable state machines and their behavior architecture for complex systems.
- Practice with hands-on exercises via cloud-based platform access to related SysML software.
