HEL Optics Metrology Workshop
ATTENTION
Security Information: The 2025 HEL Optics Metrology Workshop presentations and discussions will include Limited Distribution D information. This restricts participation in the workshop to U.S. citizens who are employees of the Department of Defense or its contractors.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), a part of the UA System, will host a workshop to bring together the various stakeholders involved in the metrology of optics for HEL systems. We invite you to join us and contribute to forging a common path forward in improving the metrology processes and technologies to more effectively move defense HEL weapons systems from prototypes to deployed systems.
The specific goals of the workshop include the following.
- Assess the current state of the HEL optics metrology enterprise, from substrate generation, to surface figuring, to coating.
- Identify areas where improvement is needed and discuss potential solutions.
- Begin to develop a common path forward across DOD, government labs, industry, and academia.
- Discuss how the various stakeholders can work together to advance our common goals.
The workshop sessions will consist of keynote speakers from DoD, plenary talks by HEL system developers and leading metrology experts, talks on current metrology capabilities, talks on improvements needed and potential solutions, and panel discussions on developing a common path forward and improving collaboration.
