What led thousands of men and women in Europe to accuse their neighbors of practicing witchcraft? What led to the deaths of thousands of women who were midwives and apothecaries at a time when "doctors" had no real expertise? What led to the Salem witch trials? What was going on in the minds of men and women that they could not only accuse their neighbors, but actually take part in their murders? In this course participants will explore the witch craze from its origins in the 1400s in Europe to, hopefully, its end in Salem, Massachusetts in the late 1600s.
