Course Detail: JACKSON - Era of Andrew Jackson

Andrew Jackson served two terms as president of the United States, elected in November 1828 and leaving office in March 1837. During these years, he established himself as one of the strongest and most consequential individuals in our political history. He has been castigated as a slave owner and for his Indian policy, but also lauded as a proponent of expanding the vote and ending the domination of government by Eastern elites. He was one of the most powerful presidents, yet promoted states' rights. Jackson's Administration eliminated the national debt, the only time in our history when this would be true.
