This class will discuss various issues currently in the news. There will be two topics in each of the three class periods. A 15-20 minute video from TED.com will present one speaker's view of the issue. Each talk will be followed by class discussion of that topic. TED talks don't just present a summary of events and their causes, they tend to focus on innovative ideas and broad issues. The last 15-30 minutes of each class will be reserved for open discussion of any current issues that the class members wish to discuss. Exact topics and talks haven't yet been chosen,but past topics have included income inequality, law enforcement issues, problems with the political system in the US, and assorted global issues.
