DESCRIPTION:Title: Strategies for Distracted Brains: Insights from CBT for Adult ADHD\n\nDescription: Join Professor of Psychology and University of Richmond alumna (WC '02) Dr. Laura E. Knouse, author of Living Well with Adult ADHD: Practical Strategies for Improving Your Daily Life, for a look at how we could ALL benefit from research-based strategies for managing Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Modern environments challenge our capacity to stay focused and complete tasks. Fortunately, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for adult ADHD offers insights on how to take back your attention and turn your intentions into actions Ð regardless of whether you have ADHD. This talk is geared toward a general audience but can also benefit people diagnosed with ADHD and the people who love them. First, we'll lay the groundwork with an overview of how ADHD is defined and how it impacts daily life functioning, followed by an introduction to CBT. Next, we'll identify foundational psychology concepts that explain why strategies from CBT are effective. Finally, you'll learn about a variety of strategies you can use to improve your focus and follow-through in daily life and create a personal action plan for putting these skills into practice. The session will conclude with a book signing and purchase opportunity.
