Designing Mobility

For the architect, schooled in museums and houses, or the LA, schooled in parks and estates, mobility systems are often a mystery. Do we really need so much parking? Why do traffic engineers always seem to want more and wider roads? Are there some rules of thumbs for transit design and operation? How large should the corner radius be? Is micro-mobility good or bad? Should pedestrian ramps be aligned with the sidewalk or the curb? This seminar would be delivered as a set of basic principles and design standards for each of the subjects. A design exercise where the principles and standards could be applied. We will also explore code requirements that exacerbate auto-dependency.
