Course Detail: PER416 - Watercolor Painting and Collage

Create works of abstract art using watercolor paints and collage techniques!

Come join Dr. Laurel Campbell for a journey into watercolor experimentation and creative collage making. Students will learn various techniques, such as salt painting, dry and wet coloration, and the use of texturizing materials for creating abstract works of art. Students will then cut apart and use the texture pieces to collage onto a large format piece of watercolor paper.

Dr. Laurel H. Campbell holds three art degrees from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC): a BFA in Crafts, MA in Art Education, and an EdD (Doctorate of Education) in Art Education. She was a goldsmith/silversmith for 23 years where she created custom-made jewelry. Additionally, she has taught K-12 art for 4 years and university art education courses at both UIUC and PFW for 26 years. She has been the recipient of awards for her research from the PFW College of Visual and Performing Arts and has published extensively in refereed journals. Dr. Campbell also co-edited a book titled, "The Heart of Art Education: Holistic Approaches to Creativity, Integration, and Transformation." 

In her free time, Dr. Campbell does needle and wet felting, embroidery, knitting and crochet, weaving, batik, bookmaking, printmaking, and watercolor painting. She shares her skills with her university students during their methods courses and helps her friends learn knitting and crochet. She has raised two sons and has volunteered her services extensively for the Art Education Association of Indiana, becoming a Higher Education representative, President, and a Distinguished Fellow in 2022. She recently hosted the annual AEAI convention at PFW as Convention Coordinator.
