CCSP02 - Chiropractic Sports Injuries (CCSP) #2 of 9: Professional Boundaries in Sport, Integrity in Sport and the Sports Medicine Team

The purpose of this course is to provide doctors of chiropractic with training regarding professional boundaries and ethics in sports chiropractic, integrity in sport policy as adopted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Federation of Sports Chiropractic (FICS), and the sports medicine team.

The module will discuss: ethical considerations in sport chiropractic, professional boundaries in sport, olympism, Olympic Movement Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions, the IOC Code of Ethics, IOC Integrity and the sports medicine team.

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

Demonstrate a basic understanding of good ethical practices when working as a sports chiropractor.
Understand and recognize when ethical or professional boundaries violations have occurred in sportschiropractic.
Demonstrate understanding of integrity in sport policy as adopted by the IOC and FICS.
Explain olympism and promote the 3 core values ofolympism in society and the work of sports chiropractic.
Recognize the sports chiropractor's role as partof the sports medicine team

Biography: Lotte Langhoff became co-owner of the Chiropractors Ringsted after having been employed at a private clinic for several years. Copenhagen. Lotte's specialty area is the treatment of patients with sports injuries. Lotte also has extensive experience and extensive training in diagnostic ultrasound scanning and is also employed at the Radiological Department at N�stved Hospital.Lotte has worked as a sports chiropractor at many national and international sporting events - eg. World Games 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2017 as well as div. national and international championships etc. in eg. underwater rugby, fencing, karate and kick boxing as well as DGI landst�vne et al. Served as FICS team leader at CSIT World Sports Games June 2015 in Lignano. Italy and in 2017 in Riga, Lithuania. Was in 2017 part of the jiu-jitsu team for Asian Martial Art Games in Turkmenistan.Lotte is bitten by an adventurous globetrotter and has, over time, been on expedition over the Inland Ice, driven off-road in Oman's desert and mountains, been hiking and kayaking trips in Borneo's jungle, crossed glacier in the Himalayas, climbed volcanoes in Guatemala, climbed in the Alps, dived with sharks in South Africa and lived with martial arts monks in Korea. She has also chosen intensive disciplines within the sports world with approx. 20 years on the national team in underwater rugby and a number of years with kickboxing on high level.

Scott Howitt

Biography: Dr. Howitt holds an Honors Bachelors degree in Physical Education from the University of Western Ontario and a Masters degree in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences from the University of Guelph. He graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, and has since completed a two-year post-graduate residency in Sports Sciences, a three-year post-graduate program in Rehabilitative Sciences, and a two-year certification in acupuncture.

Dr. Howitt has been a member of the core medical team for the Canada Summer Games, as well as numerous professional, Olympic and amateur sports including rugby, soccer, bobsled/skeleton and triathlon. He has traveled both nationally and internationally for bobsled/skeleton, triathlon and soccer events. He has created content for sports medicine courseware, has published numerous research papers, and is a prominent lecturer for undergraduate and post-graduate sports medicine, rehabilitation, nutrition and fitness continuing education.
