Course Detail: PHLEBMAY2026 - Certified Phlebotomy Technician I
This not-for-credit, fee-based program is designed to provide instruction and techniques to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I in California. Participants must complete 50 venipunctures, 10 capillary punctures, and observe 2 arterial punctures. Upon successfully completing the 48-hour program, participants must pass the national written exam AND complete a 40-hour unpaid, supervised externship in a lab, clinic, or hospital. Then they will have met California's requirements to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I.
The exam should be written within 10 business days after the in-person program completion. The week long (Mon-Fri) externship is without compensation and must be completed within 6 months after the program completion date. Both are required to secure a license.

Applicants must be at least 18 yeas old and provide proof of high school diploma, high school transcripts, GED certificate, or a translated and evaluated foreign transcript.
