Course Detail: AD2016 - Counseling Special Populations And Cultural Competence

This course will cover Comprehensive exploration of "Special populations" as defined by race; minority/protected status; ethnicity; gender/identity; religion; legal status; age; and/or other status (specific to veterans, trauma survivors, criminal justice-involved, sexual orientation, domestic violence, co-occurring disorders or other disabilities). The specific SUD prevention/treatment needs of particular populations, the different patient feelings and behaviors that may result from their respective culture including those about substance use and treatment compliance. In-depth discussion on cultural considerations as they relate to resources available for diverse populations and development of the skills necessary to effectively counsel individuals in those populations.25 Hrs.
