Course Detail: MT7510 - 2 Hour: In-Person, Online or Recording: Embracing the Musical-Clinical Pivot in Music Therapy
Much of the work we do in music therapy requires flexibility and the ability to pivot to adapt to new, often unanticipated circumstances. Unanticipated changes occur from session to session and even moment to moment with our clients. Our ability to listen, reassess, and modify interventions and our musicing based upon what is occurring calls for many musical and personal qualities. This presentation will explore musical and clinical ways to envision and enact pivoting. Musical pivoting such as harmonic, tempo shifting and smooth voice leading will be shared to help the participant realize dramatic and subtle shifts in musicing. Philosophical tenets of hope theory (Snyder, 1994) will be offered to inspire change and support clinical pivoting. 2 hour didactic program. If you wish to take the third hour music-based and hands-on portion of the program, held in the Molloy University keyboard lab, please see course MT7500. (3rd hour for a limited number of participants at an additional cost)
