Course Detail: ED5900 - Teaching Sustainability in the Middle School Classroom: Keeping it Green Without Gasoline

Teaching Sustainability in the Middle School Classroom: Keeping it How can we all help Earth! Global warming, increased greenhouse emissions, deforestation and the list goes on. These are just some of the problems that we are facing today. Through the duration of this course, participants will create and implement internet based learning activities while focusing on the economic, social and environmental impacts that create sustainability. Teachers will engage in assignments and discussions in order to explore sustainability concepts. These activities will guide students to a better understanding of sustainability and the role they play in saving our planet. The final project for all participants will be to create a sustainability lesson plan that can be shared with the class. All grade level teachers are invited as many of the lessons can be adapted for ages K-12. Activities cover NGSS: ESS3-2 Earth and Human activity. All new topics for 2024. . Instructor: Paul Zaratin is a middle school Science teacher on Long Island. He has a Master's in Earth Science Education, and holds N.Y.S. certifications in Earth Science and General Science. Through several years of teaching, he has created many lab activities in order to assist the students in understanding science concepts.
