Bees play a vital role in our ecosystems, and Illinois is no exception! In this hands?on, creative class, students explore the importance of pollinators through art and science. Participants will create a bee model, create origami honeycombs, and craft native Illinois plants while learning how bees gather pollen and support life in the hive. The class ends with a fun surprise that celebrates one of the bee's most important contributions and leaving students buzzing with excitement!

(9 a.m.-12 p.m.) Smells, Sounds, and Sweet Surprises: Exploring the Science of Bees (Grades 3-6)
In this hands on, multi sensory class, students explore the incredible world of bees through smell, sound, movement, and taste. From learning how bees help plants make seeds to discovering how bees detect dangerous smells, students investigate real world science concepts through creative experiments and interactive challenges. Learners use Cheetos to model how bees move pollen from plant to plant, sample different types of honey to explore variation and taste and make beeswax candles without melting wax. This engaging experience blends biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering while encouraging curiosity, problem solving, and teamwork.

(1 p.m.-4 p.m.) Bee Inspired! Creating, Crafting, and Exploring Pollinators (Grades 3-6)
Get ready to bee amazed while you explore bees through art, nature, and discovery! These tiny, fuzzy flyers may be small, but they help make our world bloom, and this class is packed with BEEutiful fun. Students will buzz through hands?on activities as they create honeycomb inspired art, invent their own bee buddies to learn about life cycles and hive jobs, and craft colorful plants that keep pollinators happy and humming. All the projects come together in one big, collaborative masterpiece showing how bees and plants work best when they stick together. We'll wrap things up by making edible honey slime guaranteed to leave students smiling, laughing, and buzzing with pride!

In this engaging, hands-on class, students explore the fascinating world of bees while building a strong connection to science and the environment. Learners develop essential bee vocabulary, examine the parts of a bee, and investigate bee life cycles through interactive, age-appropriate discussions. Creativity and problem solving come together as students build a 3D paper bee model and participate in a pollinator game that demonstrates how pollination helps plants grow and produce food. Students also explore how honey is made, learn about the role of beeswax, and discover why bees are essential to healthy ecosystems. The class concludes with hands on activities where students create beeswax modeling clay and edible honey slime.
